Project Controls

About Us

Barclay Advisory is building the next generation of project controls.

We are a disruptive UK consultancy with a clear ambition to revolutionise how major projects are delivered across infrastructure, construction, nuclear, rail, aerospace and defence.

We combine established project controls expertise with AI-enabled talent capable of creating better systems, smarter workflows and entirely new ways of working.

Our people do more than operate existing processes. They identify problems, create solutions, automate inefficient work and improve how project information is captured, connected, analysed and used.

We are building a new standard for project controls and a new generation of professionals equipped to shape the future of UK project delivery.

About This Role

The Senior Planner (Construction) will take ownership of the construction programme, working closely with the Project Manager and construction team to drive delivery through to completion.

This is a hands-on, delivery-focused planning role requiring someone who can combine strong Primavera P6 capability with a detailed understanding of how major construction projects are delivered on site.

You will develop, maintain and actively manage the construction programme, ensuring that activities are logically sequenced, achievable and aligned with the overall project strategy. You will work directly with construction managers, supervisors, engineers, subcontractors and project leadership to challenge progress, identify constraints and establish clear plans for upcoming work.

The role requires someone who is comfortable taking ownership of the programme rather than simply reporting against it. You will be expected to understand what is happening on site, challenge delivery assumptions, identify emerging risks and work with the wider team to establish recovery and mitigation plans where required.

The position will be predominantly site based at Hinkley Point C, typically three to four days per week.

Experience delivering major infrastructure or construction projects is essential, with previous HVAC or building-services experience strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Own, develop and maintain the detailed construction programme within Primavera P6.

• Work closely with the Project Manager and construction leadership to drive delivery against the agreed programme.

• Engage directly with construction managers, supervisors, engineers and subcontractors to establish credible sequences, durations and delivery plans.

• Translate construction methodology and site requirements into robust, logic-linked programmes.

• Drive short-term and medium-term planning, including detailed look-aheads and construction readiness reviews.

• Monitor actual progress against the programme and ensure forecasts accurately reflect current site conditions and delivery performance.

• Identify critical and near-critical activities, constraints, interfaces and emerging areas of delay.

• Challenge progress and delivery assumptions where programme performance is not aligned with the construction plan.

• Develop mitigation, acceleration and recovery strategies with the Project Manager and construction team.

• Ensure programme activities reflect access, design, procurement, materials, resources, subcontractor and construction constraints.

• Support coordination of interfaces between construction disciplines and work packages.

• Manage programme baselines, progress updates, critical paths, float, constraints and forecast completion dates.

• Support NEC3 and NEC4 programme requirements, including programme submissions, change management, early warnings and assessment of programme impact.

• Provide clear programme narratives, progress reports, look-aheads and management information.

• Communicate programme priorities and required actions clearly to project stakeholders.

• Maintain a strong understanding of site progress and ensure the programme remains an accurate representation of how the project will actually be delivered.

• Work proactively with the wider project team to drive completion of key milestones and overall project delivery.

Requirements

• Significant project planning experience within major construction, infrastructure or similarly complex delivery environments.

• Demonstrable experience delivering large-scale infrastructure or construction projects.

• Advanced proficiency in Primavera P6, including development and management of detailed construction programmes.

• Strong understanding of construction sequencing, methodology, interfaces and site delivery.

• Proven ability to take ownership of a construction programme and use it actively to drive project delivery.

• Experience working directly with Project Managers, construction teams, engineering teams and subcontractors.

• Strong understanding of critical path analysis, schedule logic, float, constraints, progress measurement and forecasting.

• Demonstrable working knowledge of NEC3 and/or NEC4 contracts and programme requirements.

• Experience supporting programme change, delay analysis, mitigation and recovery planning.

• Ability to challenge construction teams and stakeholders constructively to establish realistic plans and drive agreed actions.

• Strong understanding of the relationship between design, procurement, construction, commissioning and project completion.

• Experience within HVAC, mechanical building services or associated construction packages is strongly preferred.

• Strong stakeholder-management and communication skills, with the confidence to operate within a site-based delivery environment.

• Commercial awareness and an understanding of the programme implications of change and delay.

• A proactive, delivery-focused mindset with the ability to identify issues early and drive them through to resolution.

• Ability to work predominantly site based at Hinkley Point C for three to four days per week.

• Relevant industry qualifications, accreditations or professional memberships are desirable.
